Cost Finding
to Enhance Efficiencies and Maximize Rate Negotiations
Purpose
MTM Services helping teams accurately cost their services from the provider level all the way down to the cost per code per hour/event since 2004. MTM also helps teams utilize that costing information to adjust their service delivery systems to impact their consumers and their staff more positively. Not only does MTM work with individual organizations on costing, but we have also been lucky enough to work with multiple states and or provider associations to do comparative costing for multiple organizations in such a way that the numbers can be accurately compared side-by-side. Having this type of data captured utilizing the same methodology has been exceedingly helpful for teams facing budget cuts, which is allowed MTM to help states turn back over $100 million in proposed funding cuts by helping organizations present their true cost of care.
Process
Two-hour online kick-off meeting to review organizational data entry efforts
Immediate follow up for all questions related to data entry
A final report showing multiple views of cost and revenue data, with a comparison to national average costing numbers

Outcomes:
● A costing tool that is designed to make sure that you avoid the top 6 mistakes teams commonly make in their costing efforts that ultimately lead to inaccurate costing numbers.
● Reporting Output:
Individual Centers – Once your center has completed the full costing calculator, then you will receive a report that varies in length by agency size but averages 25 pages long with the following views. This report will only be given to your center and no one else, even if it is a statewide/state association costing effort:

Teams who fill out the Events Tabs (Mainly utilized by teams moving to CCBHC) -
A comparison of your team’s cost per code per event versus your revenue per event by Staff, Staff Type, Service Code, and Program.
A comparison of your team’s cost per code per event versus your Projected PPS-1 or PPS-2 revenue per event by Staff, Staff Type, Service Code, and Program.
A comparison of your team’s cost per code per event versus your Projected PPS-1 or PPS-2 revenue when delivering multiple Service Codes within the same day.
Statewide Efforts Only – If you are part of a multi-center statewide costing effort for your state or state association, then you will receive a statewide report that will allow you to see your agency’s information in a de-identified fashion looking at a lot of the same areas above so that you can see how you compare to the other providers in your state (unless your groups asks for/votes to identify the data). This has proven to be an AMAZING group learning tool for the states that we have worked with on these efforts!
